A Mesmerising Lake Born from Dorset's Industrial Past
Deep in the heart of the Isle of Purbeck, tucked within the 300-acre Furzebrook Estate near Wareham, lies one of Dorset's most enchanting secrets: The Blue Pool. What began as a 17th-century clay pit — excavated to supply blue ball clay to Britain's finest pottery companies — was eventually abandoned to the elements. Over the decades, rainwater filled the pit and nature reclaimed the land, creating a phenomenon that still leaves visitors speechless today.
The water appears to shift between shades of turquoise, jade, and silver depending on the light, the weather, and the season. Surrounded by ancient pines, heathland, and woodland, the pool sits at the centre of a nature reserve that rewards every kind of visitor — from families with young children to wildlife photographers, dog walkers, and those simply in search of somewhere truly peaceful.

The UK's Longest Rope Bridge
Spanning an impressive 50 metres and suspended 10 metres above the ground — mirroring the very depth of the pool below — the rope bridge at The Blue Pool is a genuine engineering marvel. Handcrafted by the specialists at Treehouse Life Ltd, every plank and rope has been woven with care to create a crossing that feels both thrilling and completely safe.
The bridge sits on the far side of the pool, reached via a woodland trail that builds the anticipation perfectly. Once you step onto it, you are suspended high among the pine canopy with a bird's-eye view of the turquoise water below. It is included in the general admission price — no extra charge.
Tip: Cross the bridge early in the morning for the best light and quieter conditions.

Visitors are invited to help feed them and learn about this fascinating breed directly from the team. No booking is required — simply pay £3 per person at the ticket office when you arrive. It is one of those moments that makes The Blue Pool feel genuinely unlike anywhere else in Dorset.
